The Mechanics of a Golf Swing

The first factor to consider is your body positioning. Make sure that your feet line up with your shoulders, and keep them shoulder width apart. You also want to point your feet and shoulders in the directions that you want to hit the ball in. Most importantly, bend at the knees and extend your arms straight.
Next is choosing a grip. There are three main grip types, including overlapping, interlocking, and the 10-finger grip. Choose one that feels the most natural for you.
Once you’re lined up and positioned properly, focus on your backswing. Make sure that you control your wrists throughout the swing. Your lead risk should be flat at the top of your backswing.
After the backswing comes the downswing. This move follows the same path as your backswing. Keep your left arm straight, follow through with your knees and hips, and maintain your arm speed by shifting your weight to ensure the ball goes where you want it.
When you make contact with the ball, keep your head down and keep your eyes on the ball, and make contact using the center of the clubface. Proper contact creates minimal contact sensation.
And most importantly, follow-through! The follow-through is what powers your swing. Watch the club through the contact point and as it goes over your shoulder. A solid follow-through increases distance and accuracy.
